A new report from AAHA and Pawlicy Advisor(opens in new tab) surveys veterinary professionals about the impact of pet insurance on patient outcomes and practice health.

Among the key findings:

  • 86% of adjust their recommended treatment plans every week due to client cost concerns
  • 85% see pet owners decline recommended care at price points of $1,000 or less
  • 87% say pet insurance helps more clients say “yes” to more care, yet only 39% frequently talk about insurance with clients.

The report, which is in its third year, also notes(opens in new tab) that “U.S. veterinary professionals now report 4.4 difficult financial conversations per week, up from 4 in last year’s survey.”

Industry revenue and visits spiked compared to the week prior, due to the late Labor Day holiday. Revenue climbed from 0.3% to 17.1% and visits rose from -4.9% to 13.5%.

Parasiticides, services, and products also all surged into the positive compared to the week prior. Heartworm jumped from -11% to 6.2%, flea/tick jumped from -9.9% to 8.5%, services rose from 1.9% to 18.3%, and products increased -5.5% to 12.9%.

Oregon continues to lead revenue growth at 7.3%, with Massachusetts in second at 6.2% and Colorado in third at 5.7%

Oregon also continues to lead visits as the only state with a positive number of 1.6%, while Iowa, Nevada, and Washington all tie for second place at -0.1%.
