According to the Companion Animal Parasite Council (CAPC), heartworm, Lyme, anaplasmosis, and ehrlichiosis continue to spread geographically across the U.S.
Based on more than 10 million diagnostic tests, the 2025 CAPC Annual Pet Parasite Forecasts show that the prevalence of the four vector-borne diseases continues to spread across the country. Shifting tick and mosquito populations are likely the primary culprits of the spread.
CAPC has been forecasting the prevalence and spread of heartworm, Lyme, anaplasmosis, and ehrlichiosis since 2021 with over 94% accuracy.
