March 22-28, 2026
The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has concluded an investigation into veterinary services. Their final report finalizes a sweeping package of legally binding measures aimed at lowering costs and increasing transparency for pet owners.
These new measures include mandatory comprehensive price lists for standard services, clear branding by large groups, and written estimates for treatments expected to cost at least £500. These changes are scheduled to be fully implemented by late 2026.
The CMA emphasized that the commitment of veterinary professionals to animal welfare remains unquestioned. Martin Coleman, Chair of the independent Inquiry Group, remarked, “Our changes put pet owners at the center but also help vets by enhancing trust in the profession and protecting clinical judgment from undue commercial pressure — and that is important to ensure our pets continue to get the best care.”
