August 6–12, 2023
While trends in visits and revenue are remaining fairly stable, the number of practices in our data set has changed — we recently surpassed 5,000! Last week, data from 5,067 practices was included in the Veterinary Industry Tracker’s numbers.
The introduction of a mid-level veterinary practitioner position is a hot topic being debated across the country. Last week, the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) released an official response to the American Veterinary Medical Association’s (AVMA) statement against expanding scope of practice. The organization’s response included a list of seven action items for the AVMA and promoted a collaborative approach toward elevating the careers of veterinary technicians and more effectively leveraging their skillset in practice.
The mid-level practitioner is one of several potential workforce shortage solutions being discussed. Others include using technology to automate and simplify processes and improving mentorship programs to help veterinarians learn how to better utilize their support teams.
