According to the 2025 State of Online Veterinary Care Report, veterinary telemedicine in the U.S. is expected to exceed $10 billion in revenue by 2030, with 20% of all veterinary visits being conducted through telemedicine.
The report, which is published annually by Dutch and includes information and research from consumer surveys, industry data, Vetsource, and the Veterinary Care Accessibility Project, also revealed:
- 22% of U.S. counties have 0 veterinarians per 1,000 households, leaving 129 million Americans with limited access to veterinary care.
- Only 9% of pet owners have tried telemedicine, but 34% are considering it for their next veterinary visit.
- While the average veterinary visit costs more than $75, the average telemedicine visit costs $35.
- Pet owners must wait an average of 7+ days for a typical veterinary visit, while 90% of telemedicine appointments are available within 24 hours.

The needle on year-over-year veterinary industry revenue and visits barely budged last week. Revenue remained flat at 0.2% (up from 0.1% the week prior), and visits were -4.9% (down from -4.8% the previous week).

Year-over-year parasiticide purchases remained in negative territory, although they improved compared to the previous week. Heartworm climbed from -9.0% to -7.8%, and flea/tick jumped from -11.1% to -5.8%. Revenue from services was 1.4%, a slight decline from the prior week’s 1.6%, and product revenue improved from -4.8% to -3.5%.

The rolling 14-day trendline showed gradual declines in revenue and visits since early April.

With year-over-year revenue coming in at 5.9% and 5.3% respectively last week, Colorado and Massachusetts again saw more revenue growth than any other state. While no states experienced growth in year-over-year visits, Oregon and Colorado saw the smallest declines at -0.1% each.
