Stats from the Veterinary Industry Tracker powered by Vetsource and AVMA
February 8-14, 2026
At VMX last month, John Volk, senior consultant and economic analyst at Brakke Consulting, shared findings from their recent survey [1]. 81% of veterinarians reported clients were more sensitive to costs in 2025, compared to 72% in 2024. More clients are also declining recommended care. Despite increasing price sensitivity and declining visits, veterinary practices saw modest revenue growth driven by rising prices. Volk stated, “I don’t expect price increases to fall to the level of core inflation, but I do think the market is telling veterinarians they can’t keep raising prices at the same pace.”
This conclusion is supported by data in the recent Vetsource white paper, Turning trends into opportunities: Insights to meet client expectations and build loyalty in 2026 [2]. Volk’s analysis was informed by sources including the Veterinary Industry Tracker, monthly surveys from the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association, and data from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
